Issue Position

Many issues that affect our local communities require collaboration among state, county, and city governments. I have developed strong relationships with our local governments. Together we have accomplished a number of good things for our communities.

Transportation & Economic Development

*Funding for replacement of Highway 96 and Co. Rd. H bridges over 35W
*Funding for spine road through TCAAP redevelopment area
*Pothole repair funding
*Railroad quiet zones in Shoreview
*Pilot tax increment financing program for local business expansions
*Working to provide sound walls in Mounds View
*Working with Met Council to extend bus rapid transit through Arden Hills

Lowering Property Taxes & Increasing School Funding

*Increased local government aid
*Increased funding of property tax refunds
*Sales tax exemption on purchases by local governments
*Paid back schools and increased per-pupil aid

Public Safety

*Victims' notification bill for victims of domestic violence
*Forensic laboratories required to be accredited
*Expansion of the East Metro Public Safety Training Center
*Improved railroad and pipeline safety training and preparedness
*GPS monitoring and prohibition of firearm possession for domestic abuse offenders

Environmental Quality

*Funding for a study of the question of augmenting the water level of Turtle Lake
*Authorization for the DNR to establish a ground water management area in the north and east metro
