Dent Welcomes News of Shrinking Deficit, Growing Economy
July 13 2005
WASHINGTON, D.C. July 13 - U.S. Rep. Charlie Dent (PA-15) hailed Wednesday's release of the Office of Management and Budget's mid-session review of the Federal Budget, which found that the fiscal year 2005 deficit has declined to $333 billion, $94 billion less than originally projected.
"The budget deficit's continued decline is good news for the American economy-but it is not unexpected," Congressman Dent said. "These figures confirm what I have stressed all along - tax cuts and fiscal discipline are reaping results."
In addition to today's reported decline in the deficit, June's payroll report showed that 146,000 jobs were created last month while the unemployment rate fell to 5.0 percent-the lowest since September 2001. The unemployment rate is down from its peak of 6.3 percent in June of 2003. More than 3.7 million jobs have been created since May of 2003, and June marked the 25th straight month of job creation.
Congressman Dent said passage of recent House legislation will only enhance economic growth while keeping federal spending in check. Specifically he touted Bankruptcy Reform, the Job Training Improvement Act, the Energy Policy Act, Transportation Equity Act (Highway Bill), repeal of the Death Tax and a sound budget proposal for 2006.
"Government's role is to foster an environment where the American people can create jobs and opportunity," Congressman Dent said. "We have been building the right environment for job growth the past few years, and I will work to continue that success during my time in Congress."
