Duckworth Must Answer on $400 Million Ransom Payment to Iran

Statement

Issues: Foreign Affairs

As more information is uncovering that the $400 million cash payment sent to Iran from the United States was essentially a ransom payment for the release of four American hostages, Rep. Duckworth has remained silent and avoided making any public comments on whether she agrees with the Administration's action.

"Time and time again, Rep. Duckworth has followed along with her party leaders instead of demanding answers on questionable policies and actions," said Kirk For Senate campaign manager Kevin Artl. "Does Duckworth support the U.S. paying this ransom, and more importantly, can she guarantee that the $400 million will not be used to fund terrorist organizations?"

The State Department has confirmed that the $400 million cash payment to Iran was contingent on the release of four American prisoners.
