Congressman Mike Pompeo (R-KS), released the following statement after the State Department admitted that the U.S. payment of $400 million to Iran was conditional on Iran's release of four Americans it was holding hostage.

"President Obama said earlier this month: "We do not pay ransom for hostages…we didn't here, and we won't in the future.' Now the State Department admits that the United States' payment of $400 million in pallets of cash to the Iranians would not have been made without the release of American hostages. Selective noun use does not excuse criminality, nor does it explain away seven months of lying to the American people. This is a shameful admission of wrongdoing and puts the lives of U.S. citizens around the world at risk."
