Rep. Kinzinger Responds to Sen. Durbin 'Obamacare' Comments

Statement

Recently, Senator Dick Durbin made comments against the Illinois state government on their handling of the contentious health care plan "The Affordable Care Act,' better known as "Obamacare.' In response to these comments, Congressman Adam Kinzinger (IL-16) spoke out with the following statement:

"It's interesting to hear the lead proponent of the Affordable Care Act criticize how the Illinois state government is handling a dysfunctional, damaging federal policy that was forced upon them. When UnitedHealth exited the Illinois exchange, it caused other insurance companies to raise premiums -- BlueCross BlueShield is certainly not the only one struggling to manage. On the flip side, many of my constituents have shared their stories of the struggle they face in the burdensome costs or plan cancellations under Obamacare."

"Bottom line: Obamacare is not working for Illinois families and rather than blame the companies or the consumers or Governor Rauner, Sen. Durbin should recognize and accept the failure of this plan he so adamantly supported."
