With health officials in Florida confirming that at least 14 cases of the Zika virus have been locally transmitted by mosquitos in the continental United States, Jason Kander released the following statement:
"Zika is in the United States and could be headed for Missouri, yet Congress is on vacation. Americans are rightfully outraged and concerned after their elected representatives decided to put off passing a response to a major health crisis so that they could campaign for reelection. Senator Blunt, who claims to be one of the lead negotiators in the response to this crisis, should use his position in Republican leadership to push his colleagues to end this recess and pass a bipartisan funding response to the Zika virus. Waiting six more weeks would be unacceptable, irresponsible and a risk to Americans who reasonably expect Congress to protect their health and safety."
