Patty Judge Statement On The 26Th Anniversary Of The Americans With Disabilities Act

Statement

Date: July 26, 2016

Patty Judge released the following statement celebrating the Americans with Disabilities Act, which was signed into law 26 years ago today:

"Over the past 26 years, the Americans with Disabilities Act has improved the lives of millions of Americans. This landmark legislation broke down barriers and formally recognized that individuals living with disabilities should not face discrimination in any form, especially from their government and employers. On this important anniversary, we must also thank Senator Tom Harkin for his leadership, passion, and dedication that made the American with Disabilities Act a reality during his first term in the U.S. Senate. Senator Harkin showed us all what can be accomplished when we work together to create a brighter future for Americans instead of playing political games or obstructing progress. In the U.S. Senate, I hope to continue his legacy of protecting marginalized Americans by working to expand protections of those living with disabilities, especially the mentally ill."
