Carter: Where is Blumenthal's Call for Malloy Accountability on Campaign Finance?

Press Release

Date: July 22, 2016
Location: Bethel, CT

Republican US Senate Candidate Dan Carter's statement on reports that a Federal Grand Jury will hear testimony in a criminal case involving Governor Malloy and the Connecticut Democrat Party:

"As someone who has received a financial benefit from the State Democrat Party, Senator Blumenthal must answer whether he supports their actions in this case and what he will do to hold Party officials accountable," Carter said.

"In 2009 when Senator Blumenthal was Connecticut's Attorney General he defended the campaign finance reforms and public financing system as 'reforms designed to stop campaign corruption and impropriety,'" Carter said. "This from the same career politician who has himself accepted millions from special interests."

"Today, I'd ask if Senator Blumenthal believes his Democrat colleagues have lived up to that expectation," Carter said. "If the answer is no, what will he do to restore faith in the system he so vigorously defended?"

"This reaffirms the disturbing trend that Senator Blumenthal and Democrats in Hartford and Washington believe there's one set of rules for them, and one for everyone else," Carter said. "I believe it's time politicians stop calling for 'accountability' as Senator Blumenthal often does, and start actually being accountable instead."
