Issue Position

Dr. Charles Boustany is running for the United States Senate because he wants to leave a better Louisiana to his daughter Ashley, his son Erik, and Erik's wife Careé. One of the most devastating legacies of the Obama Administration will be the massive deficits the President and congressional Democrats ran up -- increasing our debt several times over. Being a common-sense conservative leader, Dr. Boustany has worked to rein in the President's out of control spending, decreasing non-entitlement spending two years in a row for the first time since the Korean War.

But that's not enough -- we can and must do more.

Dr. Boustany has continued to find ways to cut our spending, root out waste and abuse, and restore the fiscal stability of the nation. He authored the law preventing welfare recipients from withdrawing cash at liquor stores, casinos, and strip clubs in order to stop waste, fraud, and abuse at the source.

It will take a combination of economic growth and reduced federal spending to solve this problem. That's why he has consistently supported a Balanced Budget Amendment requiring Congress and the President conduct our finances just like any successful family or business would.

It is our responsibility to make the tough choices now and to stop kicking the problems down the road. America's soaring federal debt is not only morally irresponsible; it's a threat to the national and economic security of our country and our children. Politicians in Washington can no longer continue to saddle future generations with such enormous debt. As our next Senator, Dr. Charles Boustany will continue to fight for responsible government spending.
