Fitzpatrick, State Lawmakers Announce Additional Funding

Location: Bristol, PA

Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick (PA-8) joined local officials today on the Delaware River waterfront to announce a $700,000 grant from the Commonwealth providing the final piece of funding for the Bristol Dock Project.

Fitzpatrick, who provided the initial $1.5 million federal grant three years ago, noted State Sen. Robert "Tommy" Tomlinson and State Rep. John Galloway provided the final funds for the Bristol Borough project. "This new dock and pier will transform the waterfront, attracting boaters to the historic borough and Mill Street where they may enjoy the restaurants, shops and theater," said Fitzpatrick.

Fitzpatrick also commended the borough leadership for its coordination among all levels of government and winning both support and funding. The $700,784 state grant, along with a $1.5 million federal grant, $1 million from the Bucks County Commissioners, and support from the Grundy Foundation complete the funding package. Construction is expected to be completed by spring.

Fitzpatrick added, "The plan brings to life Bristol's historic motto: Welcome Friend." The motto was posted on a sign that greeted the Marquis de Lafayette on his historic farewell tour of America in 1824 and still hangs in the borough hall, welcoming everyone to this historic borough. Directly in front of the riverfront wharf the motto is emblazoned on a mural high above Mill Street. "Welcome Friend" is one of the first things visiting boaters will see when embarking.

The riverfront development project is part of the 20-acre Waterfront Park, trail and 25-acre Bristol Marsh Nature Preserve, which are both part of the Delaware and Lehigh National Heritage Corridor, as well as the East Coast Greenway.
