Issue Position: Pennsylvania Jobs

Issue Position

Pat has worked tirelessly to protect Pennsylvania jobs across the state. Our state is blessed with hardworking, honest citizens. Unfortunately, top-down regulations and a sluggish economy have wreaked havoc on Pennsylvania's economy, hurting our workers. At every opportunity, Pat has fought to save these jobs and encourage the creation of new employment opportunities.

*In a Congress better known for bitter partisan battles and gridlock, Pat reached across the aisle to craft and pass a bipartisan victory for job creation--the JOBS Act. This law helps up-and-coming businesses break free from the archaic regulations and bureaucratic red tape that had been impeding further growth. Pat's collaborative efforts with Democratic colleagues from Delaware and New York now allow growing private companies to give their employees a greater share in ownership and ease some of the most expensive regulations on companies looking to go public.

*Pat worked with members of the Pennsylvania delegation to keep the 911th Airlift Wing in Pittsburgh in the face of threats to shut it down. The 911th Airlift Wing is the most cost-effective in the Air Force and sustains hundreds of jobs in western Pennsylvania.

*When a law dating back to 1920 prevented needed tankers equipped to carry natural gas liquids from docking in Delaware County, it threatened to derail the construction of new facilities at a Marcus Hook refinery. Pat worked to pass legislation allowing three tankers to service the refinery after he discovered similar exceptions were being made for foreign vessels participating in the America's Cup boat race.

*Pat has teamed up with Senator Bob Casey in an effort to keep open 14 specially designed power plants in Pennsylvania that are working to clean up pollution and employ 1,000 Pennsylvanians.

*With federal regulations already forcing coal plants throughout Pennsylvania to close their doors, Pat has fought to eliminate a new EPA rule that effectively prohibits any new plant construction.

*Pat worked hard to encourage the Department of Defense to sign a multiyear contract to produce 99 V-22 Osprey aircraft in Pennsylvania. Not only is the V-22 an important aircraft that serves our men and women in combat, its production in Pennsylvania brings jobs to the state.

*Pat is a leading advocate for repealing ObamaCare's medical device tax. Pennsylvania is home to over 600 medical device companies that support approximately 80,000 jobs in our state. Repealing the medical device tax will preserve these jobs and make sure these companies can continue to flourish in Pennsylvania.

*Pat joined with his fellow senators in fighting the EPA's regulation of small irrigation ditches, which put costly burdens on Pennsylvania's small farms.

*Pat led an effort with Senator Casey that prevented a break in the production of the Bradley Fighting Vehicle when President Obama's budget called for shutting it down. The president's proposal would have eliminated 250 jobs at the York County facility where the vehicle is produced.
