Statement

Date: July 14, 2016
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator Mark Kirk (R-Ill.), Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction and Veterans Affairs and Related Agencies (MilCon-VA), today issued the following statement:

"Once again, Democrats voted against funding efforts to stop the spread of the Zika virus and are delaying a $14 billion funding increase for veterans, overdue protections for VA whistleblowers and new sanitary accreditation requirements," said Senator Kirk. "These measures are essential to provide necessary protections for our veterans from experiencing less than adequate care."

The MilCon-VA FY17 Conference Agreement provides $74.4 billion in discretionary funding for veterans; a $2.9 billion increase which is over 4 % above FY16.
