Rangel Statement on Tragic Shooting of Police Officers in Baton Rouge

Statement

Date: July 18, 2016
Location: New York, NY

Congressman Charles B. Rangel, who represents the 13th Congressional District of New York that includes Upper Manhattan and parts of the Bronx, released the following statement on the shooting that killed three police officers and wounded several others in Baton Rouge:

"My thoughts are with the families of the three fallen officers and those who were wounded on Sunday in Baton Rouge. Such violence targeting law enforcement must stop. We must work together to disarm hate of all types. We cannot allow our country to fall into a cycle of violence.

As President Barack Obama said "Attacks on police are attacks on all of us and an attack on rule of law that makes society possible.' It is our collective responsibility to promote peace, healing and understanding in our communities through nonviolent means. Nothing justifies senseless violence."
