Rangel Statement on Attack in Nice, France

Statement

Date: July 15, 2016
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Charles B. Rangel, who represents the 13th Congressional District of New York that includes Upper Manhattan and parts of the Bronx, released the following statement in response to the attack in Nice, France that left 84 dead:

"I join the world in praying for the French people and the victims of the deeply horrifying attack on innocent civilians in Nice, France. As hundreds of families gathered to celebrate Bastille Day, a holiday honoring France's Liberty, Equality and Fraternity, they instead were faced with violence and tragedy.

We stand in solidarity with France, America's oldest ally. As the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King once said, "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.' While we are challenged by terrorism at home and abroad it is important that we promote peace instead of fear and anger. Together we can show that love is stronger than hate."
