Today, the House voted to pass the Separation of Powers Restoration Act (SOPRA) of 2016 (H.R. 4768). SOPRA restores judicial oversight and the courts' proper role in reviewing congressional intent. This bill ensures that the courts will no longer defer to how agencies have interpreted legislation and their regulations.
"Today with my support the House passed this important bill that reaffirms our Constitution," said Marchant. "This bill restores power to the courts and allows them to halt bureaucracies from openly misinterpreting statutes and agency regulations. Unelected bureaucracies were not the vision of our founders when they drafted our Constitution. We must rein in overreaching administrations to eliminate abuses within executive power."
