Issue Position: Reforming Washington

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2016

Michael knows that Washington is broken -- that's why he's taking on Washington dysfunction and partisan obstruction and continues working to make Congress more functional
-- and to do that, he believes we need to get big money out of politics.

Michael wants to overturn the Supreme Court's disastrous Citizens United decision, because a few billionaires shouldn't be able to buy our elections. He introduced a constitutional amendment to restore voters' ability, through their representation in Congress, to place commonsense limits on campaign spending.

Michael has introduced bipartisan legislation to prevent government shutdowns and force senators to stay in Washington to do their jobs whenever a shutdown seems possible. He wants to stop automatic pay raises for Members of Congress and permanently ban them from ever becoming lobbyists, because he believes serving in Congress is a privilege and shouldn't be a gateway for members to get rich working for special interests after leaving office.
