House Freedom Caucus Encourages Support for the First Amendment Defense Act

Press Release

Date: July 11, 2016
Location: Lima, OH

The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee will hold a hearing on the First Amendment Defense Act, H.R. 2802, on Tuesday. The House Freedom Caucus released the following statement in support of the legislation:

"The First Amendment Defense Act is common-sense legislation that protects religious liberty--the backbone of our great nation. Under FADA, the federal government would be barred from revoking grants, contracts, accreditation, or licenses from individuals or institutions based on the personal views they hold on the definition of marriage.

Supporting the First Amendment Defense Act was one of the first official positions the Freedom Caucus took and we look forward to seeing it advance in the House. We encourage the Oversight Committee to move this legislation forward for a mark-up as soon as possible. We also thank Rep. Raul Labrador (R-ID) and Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) for their continued leadership on this important issue."
