Vitter Announces $1.3 Million for Economic Development Programs

U.S. Senator David Vitter (R-La.) today announced that the U.S. Department of Commerce's (USDOC) Economic Development Administration (EDA) will award $1,320,000 to multiple economic initiatives in the Morgan City and Baton Rouge areas.

"It is important we support the backbone of our nation's economy and providing opportunities for Americans heading into the workforce should always be one of our top priorities, " Vitter said. "All that hard-working Louisianians need is an opportunity, and programs like these do exactly that."

The EDA will be providing $1,040,000 to support the development of the South Central Louisiana Technical College's Welding Training Center in Saint Mary's Parish. The improvements will help improve the region's advanced manufacturing swell and is projected to create more than 570 jobs in the area.

Funding totaling $280,000 will be awarded to the Research Park Corporation for the Ecosystem Mapping Initiative located in East Baton Rouge Parish. The program is aimed at cultivating relationships between technological companies and innovators to create growth that will improve the Parish's ability to recover and grow in the aftermath of a disaster.
