Presiding Officer of the Suffolk County Legislature and Congressional candidate DuWayne Gregory today called on U.S. Rep. Peter King to retract his promise to support U.S. Senator Ted Cruz if he were to receive the Republican nomination for president. Earlier this week, the Texas Senator accused an opponent of embodying "New York values."
"Ted Cruz used the term "New York values,' as an insult this week, which is an affront to every single person who calls this great state home," said Gregory. "Yet just last month, Congressman King said he would support the Republican nominee for president. I call upon Peter King to retract his pledge to support a Ted Cruz ticket. New York values are American values: we are gritty and tough, self-sufficient and strong. Yet we also rush to each other's aid, as demonstrated by the great acts of heroism on Sept. 11th, or the humanity of the subway rider who recently gave the shirt off his back to a homeless man. That is the New York I know, a New York that Ted Cruz does not deserve to lead."
A recent poll sponsored by ABC News and the Washington Post showed Cruz gaining in popularity. Gregory has also called on King to retract his pledge to support a Donald Trump ticket.
