Rep. Brat statement on decision to not prosecute Hillary Clinton

Statement

Date: July 5, 2016
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Rep. Dave Brat issued the following statement on the decision to not prosecute Hillary Clinton:

Yesterday we celebrated the birth of a country founded on democratic principles like liberty, justice and the rule of law; but today's FBI decision mocks the rule of law and vividly illustrates that the political class in this country plays by its own set of rules.

In March of 2015, Secretary Clinton said, "I did not email any classified material to anyone on my email. There is no classified material." Today we learned from FBI Director James Comey that she sent over 100 emails in 52 different chains with classified information from unsecured, personal servers; yet Clinton will not be prosecuted and instead will be getting a ride on Air Force One. Lady Justice wears a blindfold precisely because our system is supposed to be blind to wealth, power or privilege when delivering a decision. This is not about politics -- the facts in this case are very clear. Americans have a right to feel outraged at the double standard so flagrantly on display at the highest echelons of their government.
