Sarbanes Statement on Goodson Verdict

Statement

Date: June 23, 2016
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman John Sarbanes (D-Md.) released the following statement today after Officer Caesar Goodson Jr. was acquitted of all charges in the death of Freddie Gray:

"Judge Williams is by all accounts a fair and experienced jurist who conducted careful review of the evidence in the Goodson case. Nevertheless, in communities where trust in law enforcement and in our justice system is at a low point, today's decision will understandably leave many Baltimoreans feeling frustrated and angry. The challenge moving forward is to work collaboratively to improve the relationship between police officers and the citizens they are sworn to serve and protect. That is a responsibility that falls to all of us."
