Hawks Makes Case for Stronger Agriculture and Rural Economies

Statement

Emphasizing her experiences growing up on a family farm during the 1980's farm crisis, U.S. House candidate Paula Hawks made the case for prioritizing agriculture and rural economies at the 2016 Democratic Party State Convention.

"With agriculture being South Dakota's number one industry, it needs to be South Dakota's number one priority. When I get to Congress, I will demand a seat on the Ag Committee," Hawks said. "Imagine a future where the same fields that feed our families, fuel our cars and provide power to our homes from coast to coast."

Drawing on her experience in the state legislature, Hawks also called for greater cooperation in Washington. Hawks said, "Just because you don't agree with someone on every issue doesn't mean you can't work together on the ones you do."

Hawks concluded, "Politics isn't about who shouts the loudest, it's about who works the hardest."
