Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement after the Senate passed legislation to allow Puerto Rico to restructure its public debt:

"The bipartisan bill that will now go to the President's desk provides a vital and urgently needed measure of relief for our fellow Americans in Puerto Rico. While hard work remains, Puerto Rico now has the tools it needs to restructure its debt and embark on the road to recovery.

"While the bill contains many provisions that Democrats have objected to, it will begin to part the dark clouds of uncertainty that have shadowed Puerto Rico's economy, its families and its future.

"Now, we must act expeditiously in providing President Obama with a list of qualified candidates for appointment to the oversight board."
