Rangel Commemorates National Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month

Statement

Date: June 30, 2016
Location: New York, NY

Congressman Charles B. Rangel, who represents the 13th Congressional District of New York that includes Upper Manhattan and parts of the Bronx, released the following statement recognizing June as National Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month:

"Alzheimer's is not a normal part of aging; it is a fatal disease that impairs memory and other brain functions. With over 5 million Americans living with Alzheimer's today, I join families and friends in recognizing the impact of the disease this National Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month.

Living with the disease is not easy for the individual or for family and friends who feel the pain of gradually losing a loved one. Often, families are unable to save financially due to the high costs of providing care to loved ones with Alzheimer's. As a co-sponsor of H.R. 2975, The Alzheimer's Caregiver Support Act, H.R. 1559, the Health Outcomes, Planning, and Education (HOPE) for Alzheimer's Act and H.R. 3091, the Missing Alzheimer's Disease Patient Alert Program Reauthorization Act, I am working to find ways to treat and prevent Alzheimer's and equip caregivers with the resources they need to care for people living with the disease.

While there is no cure for Alzheimer's yet, we must all do our part to raise awareness about the disease and support those that care for loved ones. No one should face Alzheimer's alone."
