Cope Says Capitol Hill Sit-In a "Photo Op to Spur Fundraising"

Statement

Clay Cope, First Selectman for the Town of Sherman and the Republican Candidate for Congress in the 5th District, issued the following statement:

"At a time when we should provide support and comfort to the families of the victims of the Orlando Pulse nightclub shooting, and press the FBI to provide detailed answers to lingering questions about its investigative protocols, Elizabeth Esty and her Democratic colleagues stage a sit-in/political photo op on the House floor to spur campaign fundraising."

"Instead of disrupting the House of Representatives Esty should search for ways to prevent future ISIS-inspired terror attacks in our homeland."

"But her priorities lie with her re-election. She chooses to participate in a catered sit-in, protected by armed guards, as she poses with photographs of victims, and circulates video selfies - followed by appeals from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and her colleagues for campaign donations."

"Esty should disavow the tainted campaign solicitations, refuse donations from the D.C.C.C., and insist any money raised by the appeals be re-directed to the families of the victims.

Democrat Congressman John Larson already criticized the D.C.C.C. fundraising effort."

"Why is Esty silent on this shameless, self-serving campaign fundraising?"
