Pallone Statement on Senate Passage of Update to Toxic Substances Control Act

Statement

Date: June 8, 2016
Location: Washington, DC

"I applaud the Senate's passage of the Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety Act for the 21st Century, which will provide a long overdue update to the Toxic Substances Control Act. This bill provides EPA with the resources and tools it needs to ensure that new chemicals are reviewed and regulated for the health and safety of all Americans.

"Reforming TSCA is about preventing injuries and saving lives. It is about protecting vulnerable populations -- infants, children, workers, the elderly, and communities that are disproportionately exposed to toxic chemicals. It is about getting dangerous chemicals like lead, mercury, and asbestos out of consumer products, out of commerce, and out of the environment.

"I'm proud that we were able to come together to provide more protection for public health, for the environment, for vulnerable populations, and for vulnerable communities. At the end of the day, enactment of the Lautenberg Act will be the first major step forward in protecting families and communities from toxic chemicals in over four decades."
