Hagel Statement on the Retirement of Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor

U.S. Senator Chuck Hagel (R-NE) released the following statement today on the retirement of Associate Justice Sandra Day O'Connor from the U.S. Supreme Court:

"For 24 years, Justice Sandra Day O'Connor served her country with honor and distinction on the Supreme Court. She was devoted to interpreting the law in a fair and unbiased manner. She leaves behind a legacy of fairness, moderation and devotion to the public good that has served America well.

"I am confident that President Bush will send the Senate a well-qualified, highly regarded nominee. It is critical that the Senate move forward on responsible Judiciary Committee hearings and then give the President's nominee a fair up-or-down vote," Hagel said.
