Toomey's Statement on Proposed Obamacare Plan Premium Increases by Highmark and Other Insurers in Pennsylvania

Statement

Date: May 26, 2016
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Senator Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) issued the following statement about health insurance companies announcing the need to significantly raise premiums on plans sold in the Affordable Care Act's marketplace for Pennsylvania - with some proposed premium increases exceeding 40 percent.

"Obamacare requires insurers to offer coverage that many Pennsylvanians do not want and cannot afford - even though they are forced to buy it. These massive proposed rate hikes are more evidence that Obamacare is crashing under its own weight. Once again, the President's promise that premiums would fall $2,500 has been broken along with so many other assurances such as "if you like your plan you can keep it.'"
