Huelskamp Cosponsored Bill to Keep IRS in Check Passes the House

Press Release

Legislation cosponsored by Congressman Tim Huelskamp (KS-01) passed the House Tuesday. The legislation protects our First Amendment right to free speech and assembly by keeping the IRS' hands off sensitive information it does not need. It eliminates the use of Form 990 Schedule B, used to list personal donor information. IRS employees have illegally leaked this personal information for political and ideological purposes.

In May of 2013, the most recent IRS scandal broke. Since then, America has learned that Obama's IRS specifically targeted conservative and Tea Party groups for extra government scrutiny and censorship and withheld their tax-exempt status for months. In response to this shocking politicization of the IRS, congressional investigations have been met with non-cooperative witnesses, failures to comply with legally binding subpoenas and preservation orders, and even lies from IRS Commissioner John Koskinen.

On passage of the bill Congressman Tim Huelskamp (KS-01) made the following statements: "The IRS has a terrible track record and has proven that it cannot be trusted. The IRS should not be used to punish political enemies of President Obama or any other president. This bill is a step toward safety from the IRS, which plays far too large a role in our lives. I was proud to support this bill and stand up for my constituents."
