Jordan: Supreme Court Abortion Ruling Bad for Women's Safety

Today in Texas Whole Woman's Health v. Hellerstedt the Supreme Court struck down a Texas law improving health and safety regulations for Texas abortion facilities. Regarding the decision Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) made the following comments:

"Today the Supreme Court undermined the health and safety of vulnerable women in Texas by overturning common-sense regulations that would have ensured abortion facilities met basic medical safety standards. Mandating that trained staff be available and that corridors be wide enough for a stretcher to fit down them in case of an emergency only helps women.

"A woman died in Philadelphia because abortionist Kermit Gosnell was allowed to run a horrific abortion center, thanks to lax and unenforced regulations. It should be an issue where everyone can agree, that these facilities meet the common sense standards that will protect the health of women in case of medical emergency. This shouldn't be a pro-life versus pro-abortion issue, and those opposed to such safety regulations should be ashamed."
