Statement

Date: May 30, 2016
Location: Washington, DC

Today, U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) released the following statement.

"On Memorial Day, we come together to pay tribute to the men and women who courageously fought and made the ultimate sacrifice defending our country and protecting American ideals. It is because of their bravery and selfless service that we have a future of opportunity, strength and promise."

"My thoughts and prayers today are with the military families -- the friends, children, spouses, siblings, and parents -- who have lost a loved one in the line of duty. I think of the strength, resilience, commitment and dedication of these military families.

"We also take this day to reflect on the promises we've made to all who have put on the uniform. We owe it to every veteran and servicemember that they get the care and services they need. Their dedication to the defense of America and its potential have strengthened our country."
