Tillis Applauds Passage of Adam Walsh Reauthorization Act

Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) voted in favor of the Adam Walsh Reauthorization Act, which passed the Senate today. The bipartisan measure would reauthorize and amend the 2006 Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act, establishing a national registry for sex offenders and child predators.

"I am happy the Senate was able to come together to pass the Adam Walsh Reauthorization Act, and I want to thank Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley for his tireless work to protect our children and our communities," said Senator Tillis. "By increasing the amount of information shared between law enforcement agencies, we can prevent future crimes and help victims receive the justice they long deserve."

The Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006 established nationwide notification and registration standards for convicted sex offenders to bolster information sharing between law enforcement agencies and increase public safety through greater awareness. The Adam Walsh Reauthorization Act of 2016 reauthorizes key programs in the 2006 act to help states meet the national standards and locate offenders who fail to properly register or re-register.
