Rep. Norcross Statement on U.S. Senate's Failure to Advance Gun Safety Legislation

U.S. Rep. Donald Norcross (NJ-01) tonight released the following statement after the U.S. Senate's failure to vote for common sense action on gun violence:

"This evening, the Republican-led U.S. Senate chose to stand with the NRA instead of with the American people and thousands of victims of gun violence. By voting down measures that would have ensured a safer America, some Senators showed their allegiance to a small but powerful lobbying effort that represents a select few--their votes don't speak for the majority of Americans who want change. Although this is a sad outcome, the recent filibuster led by Senators Chris Murphy & Cory Booker shows resolve--a resolve that got these votes to the floor of the Senate. I will remain vigilant in my own fight and determination to bring a common sense gun safety agenda to the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives. That includes an assault weapons ban and closing an outrageous loophole in U.S. law that allows those on the "no fly list" to legally purchase firearms. Eight days after the worst mass shooting in U.S. history, America expects actions, not excuses. Tonight, I am discouraged, but I am not deterred."
