Edwards Statement on Justice O'Connor Resignation

(Washington)- U.S. Representative Chet Edwards released a statement today following the resignation of Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor.

"Since her appointment to the bench by President Reagan in 1981, Justice O'Connor has become one of the most respected members of the Court, revered for her balanced opinions. I thank Justice O'Connor for her many years of principled service and greatly respect her decision to put her family first.

Under the Constitution, the Senate, not the House, has the responsibility to confirm or reject Supreme Court nominations, but I will follow the process closely," said Edwards.
