We Should Build on Fracking's Success, Not Destroy It

Statement

Location: Washington, DC

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on the U.S. District Court's ruling blocking the Department of Interior's attempt to regulate hydraulic fracturing:

"Political observers will say this ruling is yet another blow to the President's extreme environmental legacy. Constitutionalists will celebrate the fact that yet another example of executive overreach has been struck down. They are both right. But what cannot be forgotten is the great damage this rule--and so many others from this Administration--would do to hardworking Americans. American oil and natural gas development, made possible by hydraulic fracturing and horizontal drilling, has been an American success story even during a period of prolonged economic stagnation. It has breathed new life in states and communities. It has liberated the United States from a future of energy dependence on foreign nations. And it has been the driving force reducing carbon emissions. Hydraulic fracturing is the type of innovation that is good for workers, national security, and our environment. Unlike this Administration, the House won't try to destroy it. We will build on it."
