Issue Position: Respecting our Veterans & Military Families

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2016
Issues: Veterans

A little more than 2 years ago, I became a civilian after over 10 years of serving as a Marine. It was an honor to serve! Semper Fidelis to my Marine family. That said, I missed over 4 years of my marriage and daughter's life as a Marine. My opponent has not served and does not know what it actually means to pack a bag and look your child in the eyes knowing she is too young to understand what is about to happen, and what could happen. But veterans know.

We also should take a moment to address the unsung heroes -- the families of military men and women who hold their family together while loved ones are serving in active duty. I know the sacrifices that military families make, and I thank God for my wife and all that she did when I could not physically be at home. Veterans and military families have already sacrificed for us, and it's time we stopped ignoring their needs in Bell and Harlan County.
