Issue Position: Military Defense & the Second Amendment

Issue Position

It is our right to bear arms for our own protection, and that right shall not be infringed. Yet we live in a world where government convinces the masses that true security depends on gun-free zones.

I am ashamed to say that I was the Executive Officer ordered by the General to place "No Gun" signs up across the state of Tennessee, Northern Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi while I was on Recruiting Duty. Several Marines gave it a good fight, but the General ultimately made the decision to remove our Marine's right to defend themselves. Soft targets never win. I often wonder why the military men and women who would fight for us are the first to have their rights stripped away. I hate that we live in a world where active military lose their 1st and 2nd Amendment Rights.

As a Legislator, I will ensure that active military are protected. Protection does not mean placing an ineffective sign on their door. Protected means ensuring that they have the right to defend themselves in the horrible situations where they have to.

Many men have died to defend our Constitution abroad. I will fight to protect our Constitution at home in Frankfort, in memory of those who bled to protect it. I have said before that freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. It must be fought for and protected.
