BLACKBURN: WE ARE IN THIS TO WIN
June 28, 2005
WASHINGTON, DC - Representative Marsha Blackburn (TN-7th District) offered the following reaction to President Bush's speech regarding the war on terrorism.
"President Bush spoke of our successes and the setbacks in the war on terror, and he did so with great candor and determination. This nation doesn't cut and run, and despite calls to do so from some on the left, it's clear this President will never do that. We're in this fight to win and to leave our children a safer and freer world. America should never seek to appease terrorists. We don't believe in turning a blind eye as evil gathers, hoping it strikes someone else. And contrary to what some would tell the American people, Iraq is not a quagmire, Guantanamo Bay is not a gulag, and our soldiers are not Nazi-like. The President is right, our troops deserve to know we are a united nation dedicated to them and dedicated to what they're doing."
Blackburn has spent time in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, and Jordan reviewing American progress in the war on terrorism. In addition, she recently returned from the U.S. Naval Facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba where America detains and questions enemy combatants who have participated in or helped plan attacks against the nation.
