Congressman Charles B. Rangel who represents the 13th Congressional District of New York that includes Upper Manhattan and parts of the Bronx, released the following statement observing Father's Day on Sunday, June 19:

"This Sunday, I am pleased to celebrate fathers and recognize the important role of fatherhood. I am proud to stand with all men who embark on one of life's most challenging and rewarding journeys. Nothing has given me more joy than raising my own children Steven and Alicia, and being a grandfather to Howard, Joshua, and Charles.

Fathers provide their children with invaluable strength and guidance, helping them to reach their full potential. However, being a parent is no easy task and many children grow up without a dad. I applaud the uncles, brothers, coaches, and all men who step up to the challenge and become father figures in the lives of countless children. I also commend the local organizations and initiatives that work to strengthen our families and provide dads with vital resources including STRIVE Dads Embracing Fatherhood, Man Up in Harlem, NYC DADS Fatherhood Program, and Harlem Men Stand Up. Responsible and engaged fathers can truly make a difference in our communities.

Fatherhood is a lifetime commitment, and I dream that one day all children will receive the support of loving parents throughout their childhood. This weekend, let us celebrate the contributions of all the wonderful fathers in our community and across the country. We thank and respect them for playing a significant part in nurturing our future leaders."
