Dave Hughes Wins Republican Party Endorsement in U.S. House Race

Press Release

Date: Jan. 1, 2016
Location: Karlstad, MN

Dave Hughes, Candidate for U.S. House of Representatives, 7th Congressional District of Minnesota, won the Republican Party endorsement at the MN Congressional District (CD) 7 GOP Endorsing Convention in Alexandria, MN, on Saturday, April 30th, 2016.Hughes was selected by delegates of the 38 counties that comprise MN CD7 by a majority of 60% or more in the first round of balloting. Dave Hughes is now ready to press ahead in the general election in November and then onto the Congressional floor in January.

Hughes brings the message of Prosperity, Security and Integrity for the citizens of the western half of MN, and to the entire nation. Hughes is a strict Constitutional Conservative. On all bills his first question will be, "Is it Constitutional?" His second question will be, "How will it be funded?" Hughes is a small-government, low-tax candidate, and believes the vast majority of western Minnesotans value these principles.

Hughes has been active in learning more about the agriculture policy of the U.S., and believes more needs to be done in trade reform. Hughes supports the "Zero-for-Zero" policy concept and believes we need more oversight into what foreign agriculture programs are doing that puts our hard-working farmers at a disadvantage.

On the issues, Hughes is Pro-Life, believing life begins at conception and ends at natural death. Hughes is Pro-Second Amendment, believing gun rights must be protected. On education Hughes is fed up with our lack of academic achievement in our public school system and wants not only to end Common Core, but abolish the entire Department of Education. Education is so important, Hughes wants the states, counties, districts and parents to have more control over their children's education.

As a Constitutional Conservative Hughes wishes to actively support and defend the U.S. Constitution against all enemies. Hughes retired from the U.S. Air Force in 2014, after almost 22 years on Active Duty as an officer, pilot, and combat veteran; he is very strong on national security issues, with keen insight into the threats we face. Hughes knows the enemy, and is not afraid to name them. Hughes wishes to employ all available instruments of national power before resorting to war, but is ready to wage comprehensive global war on Islamist Terrorism. Hughes wants to actively rebuild our relationships with our allies, with extra attention to our dear friends in Israel. On immigration Hughes favors building a wall, no amnesty for illegals, no legalization, and no path to citizenship for illegals.

Hughes will soon contact leaders of Congress to try to secure a guarantee of a seat on the Agriculture Committee, as well as a seat on the following committees: House Armed Services, Intelligence, Oversight and Government Reform, Veteran's Affairs, and Ways and Means.

"There's a popular criticism that Democrats are driving the nation toward the cliff at 100 miles per hour, and that Republicans are doing the same, only at 60 miles per hour. I'm a different kind of Republican, and a different kind of candidate. I'm not interested in the status quo or half measures. I'm for Free Enterprise, Limited Government, Individual Liberty, and Traditional Values. I want to turn this vehicle completely around and head in a better direction. If elected, I promise to work toward that end. I will always tell the truth. I will never lie to you -- ever!" -- Dave Hughes, from his endorsing convention speech Saturday, April 30th, 2016.

Hughes is ready to go to DC and rock the boat; cutting government overreach into our personal lives, question unethical standards, reducing taxes greatly, and return power to the people. Through the meetings he has attended in caucuses and county conventions meeting with constituents, the message is clear that CD7 is ready for a change. Hughes is the one that is ready for the challenge, and feels energized by the victory on Saturday.

"The Republican Party Endorsement was a hard-fought race. The candidates worked hard spreading their message. In the end, a majority of Republican delegates chose Dave Hughes. The Republican Party leadership in MN CD7 is proud of our candidate Dave Hughes. He is a principled candidate, he is highly qualified, and we back him in his quest to win CD7 back to the GOP." -- Craig Bishop, Chairman MN CD7 - Republican Party

Hughes has begun his quest to win in November and will be fitting in as much speaking, interviewing and efforts in getting out his message and plans for change in Washington DC. Hughes had already contacted numerous PACs, 2nd Amendment rights groups, Pro-Life groups and other conservative supporters. Now with his endorsement, the race to the Capitol Building has intensified; donations and volunteers are streaming in.

Hughes is currently employed by General Atomics at Grand Forks Air Force Base as their academics and flight instructor for the Predator B drone, teaching the US Customs and Border Protection how to fly their drone. Hughes also flies operational law enforcement missions monitoring the northern and southern borders.

Dave Hughes lives with his wife Amanda and their 7 children in Karlstad, MN. Amanda is a stay at home mother who also homeschools and is a small business owner. In between campaign and work engagements Hughes is an active father, and homeschooling dad. His family is actively working on and supporting his campaign, and looks forward to attending many county fairs and parades this summer. And central to Hughes' busy family, extensive resume, his studied policy stances, and his work defending our nation; he is grounded in his Christian faith.
