Today, the California Teachers Association (CTA) and California Federation of Teachers (CFT) announced their endorsement of Congressman Mike Honda in his bid for re-election. CTA and CFT join the California Democratic Party, the South Bay and Alameda Labor Council, SEIU 521, and National Nurses United in standing with Congressman Honda.
The California Federation of Teachers and the California Teachers Association represent more than 400,000 educational employees throughout the State of California.
"The California Teachers Association is pleased to once again endorse Mike Honda. As a former educator himself, Mike has been a vocal advocate for students, teachers and improving public schools across the country," said CTA President Eric C. Heins. "He knows that educational equity is the foundational concept on which our educational system should be built. Mike will continue to be a voice for our public school system and CTA is proud to stand with him."
"CFT is pleased to once again endorse Mike Honda for Congress. As a former educator himself, Mike has been a champion for quality in the classroom and educational equity for all our students," said CFT President Josh Pechthalt. "As an Asian-American whose family lived through the shameful internment camps of WWII, he has felt the sting of racism and injustice more than most politicians. Mike will continue to be a voice of the community he represents."
"As a former public school teacher and principal I am humbled by the support of these important teachers unions. I know firsthand the widespread disparities in the quality of education and opportunities children receive throughout the public school system," said Congressman Mike Honda. "I look forward to working with these organizations to fight for students, teachers and our schools so that all students can receive the education they deserve."
