As a daughter of a World War II veteran and member of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, I have a unique privilege of making sure that our military families receive federal funding they have earned through their service.

U.S. service men and women dedicate their life to defending our freedom and liberty and we are all grateful for their outstanding service.

Congress must continue working to provide our veterans and their families with health, education, and employment resources. Over the past four years, Congress passed landmark legislation geared toward assisting our veterans and their families. We enacted the new Post 9-11 GI Bill to restore the promise of a full, four-year college education, which has already allowed over 600,000 veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars to afford college. We strengthened health care for over five million veterans. This effort includes a historic commitment -- including the largest single increase in the history of the VA -- for more doctors and nurses, better access for rural veterans, and expanded efforts to treat the signature injuries of the war.

These are significant achievements that will help military families all across the country, but we must do more. I remain dedicated to building upon this legislative progress with my colleagues in Congress. Just as the military pledges to leave no soldier behind on the battlefield, Congress will leave no veteran behind when they return.
