U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced that the National Park Service (NPS), in partnership with the Maritime Administration, awarded the Ohio Historical Society $100,000 to restore the interior of the W.P. Snyder Jr. Historic Steamboat in Marietta. The funds were granted through the National Maritime Heritage Program which works to advance awareness and understanding of the role of maritime affairs in the history of the United States.

"The W.P. Snyder Jr. is a special landmark that brings great pride to Ohioans living along the Muskingum and Ohio Rivers and supports the local economy," said Brown. "This award will help restore its interior so Ohioans and visitors alike can continue to enjoy this historical boat."

The National Maritime Heritage Program grants are possible through a partnership between NPS and the Maritime Administration. The awards support maritime education and preservation projects.
