Wagner Applauds Inclusion of Super Hornets in 2017 NDAA

Press Release

Date: April 28, 2016
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congresswoman Ann Wagner (R-MO-02) applauded the House Armed Services Committee for including funding for 14 additional F/A-18E Super Hornets in the Fiscal Year 2017 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

Wagner recently testified before the Committee in support of the Super Hornets following the Chief of Naval Operations' (CNO) declaration that the Navy faces a shortage of operational aircraft. The Super Hornets, which are currently produced and maintained by Boeing at a factory in St. Louis, Missouri, are critical in addressing this tactical aviation shortfall.

Funding for the additional 14 Super Hornets in the NDAA will continue the production and maintenance of the aircraft through the end of 2018 and into 2019, supporting approximately 5,000 jobs in the St. Louis area.

"I commend Chairman Thornberry and his Committee for addressing our current naval aviation shortfall and supporting funding for the additional 14 Super Hornets. The additional aircraft are not only critical in protecting our nation from rising foreign threats, but are an asset to our local economy, creating 5,000 jobs for the St. Louis area," said Congresswoman Wagner. "In addition to providing our men and women in uniform with the support and tools they need, inclusion of the Super Hornets in the NDAA is a huge win for St. Louis, as continued production of the aircraft will protect Missouri jobs and put a local stamp on national defense."
