Location: Washington, DC

In the wake of accusations of poor patient care and mismanagement at Cincinnati VA Medical Center (VAMC), U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced that he has secured a commitment that U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Secretary Robert McDonald will visit the Cincinnati VAMC to examine the issues firsthand. Brown questioned McDonald at a hearing before the Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee today and pressed for a thorough investigation. Brown also secured a public commitment from McDonald that whistleblowers will be protected from retaliatory action.

"The investigation into leadership at the Cincinnati VA Medical Center can't just be just another report that gets filed away on a shelf," Brown said. "I will work with Secretary McDonald to get to the bottom of these allegations. We must demand accountability and take action to ensure that veterans in Cincinnati get the quality care they've earned."
