Issue Position: Tenth Amendment

Issue Position

The Founding Fathers were rightly wary of a powerful centralized government. They drafted the Tenth Amendment to avoid the implications of powers in the national government that were not granted by the Constitution. They wanted to make it clear that that powers not granted to the federal government were retained by the states or the people.

The Tenth Amendment has largely been ignored by the Courts and Congress, but it is a vital protection against a federal government unwilling to respect its constitutional limits. The Constitution created a federal government of limited and enumerated powers. Dan Barrett will work to ensure the federal government respects and abides by the Tenth Amendment.
