Rep. Curbelo Condemns Maduro Regime on Amnesty Decision

Statement

Date: April 15, 2016
Location: Washington, DC

This week, the Supreme Court of Venezuela, at the direction of President Nicolaus Maduro, vetoed an amnesty bill that would ease rising tensions in Venezuela. Rep. Curbelo (FL-26) released the following statement condemning their actions.

"Maduro's latest move is just another example of his disregard for the people of Venezuela. He consistently refuses to put their needs first, and his decision to reject the amnesty law, which would release 86 political prisoners jailed for nonviolent protests and civil disobedience, including prominent opposition leader Leopoldo López, will only further polarize the country. Venezuela is on the brink of a collapse, and the citizens deserve a true leader, not an oppressive ruler and his thugs."
