CONGRESSMAN YOUNG ANNOUNCES GRANT TO RESPOND TO WORKER IMPACT WHICH MAY RESULT FROM THE BRAC

Alaska Congressman Don Young today announced a Department of Labor Grant for Alaska's BRAC recommended facilities: Kulis Air Guard Station, Elmendorf Air Force Base, Ft. Richardson and Eielson Air Force Base. The funding level is approved at $615,000. This money can be used for workers, businesses and communities potentially at risk as a result of the BRAC 2005.

"I am pleased the Department of Labor understands the urgency of this matter. The BRAC recommendation to empty Eielson Air Force Base will have a devastating effect on the surrounding economy. The Delegation is doing everything in its power to stay this closing. This grant will help the effected communities to strategically put in place an effective workforce investment system to cushion the potential blow of these base closings," said Congressman Young.

This project will help the State to initiate early community planning and job training to ensure an effective workforce investment system. This grant helps respond to worker impact that may occur from the closure and realignment actions as a result of BRAC 2005. This grant also provides assistance for spouses affected by the BRAC's final actions.
