Strickland Applauds Court Ruling in Friedrichs Case

Statement

Date: March 29, 2016

Today, Ted Strickland released this statement following the Supreme Court's 4-4 decision in the case of Friedrichs v. California Teachers Association. The tie decision upholds a lower court's ruling in favor of the California Teachers Association.

"Today's decision was a victory for working men and women across Ohio. The lower court's decision in this case reaffirms the rights of our unions to negotiate wages and benefits that will help Ohio's middle class grow and build better lives for their families. The chance for hardworking Ohioans to get a good job with fair pay is constantly under attack from those like Senator Portman who are pushing the interests of the Washington power brokers and the wealthy special interests at our expense, but in the U.S. Senate I will always fight for our working people -- that's where I come from and that's who I care about. Today's decision also highlights that the Supreme Court is dealing with critical issues that impact the lives of millions of Americans -- we must have a full Supreme Court, and Senator Portman's refusal to do his job and even consider the nominee is a blatant example of how he is putting his Washington politics over his constitutional duties to the people of Ohio."
