On today's 7th anniversary of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, former Governor Ted Strickland issued the following statement:
"Ensuring that Ohio's women receive equal pay for equal work is a commonsense idea with powerful implications for working people. I can tell you firsthand that when you are struggling to get by, every cent counts -- and it is inexcusable that women in Ohio are still earning only 77 cents for every dollar earned by a man. Closing the gender gap in America is not only fair and just, it is a tangible proposal that will put more money in the pockets of working families. That is why I am a proud supporter of the Paycheck Fairness Act, and will fight to pass this legislation in the U.S. Senate. Unfortunately, Senator Portman just doesn't get it: he voted against the Paycheck Fairness Act five times, prioritizing the interests of the Washington power brokers and the wealthy special interests he serves while Ohioans who work for a living pay the price. As Ohio's next U.S. Senator I will never stop fighting until all of Ohio's working people -- men and women -- receive the fair wages they deserve."
